Giving Tuesday: Send a video greeting

Share a video message with loved ones this holiday season: why not start on Giving Tuesday? Photo: Metro Creative Connection

GivingTuesday is a global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday. The “Opening day of the giving season,” it’s a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for favourite causes. In the same way that retailers take part in Black Friday, the giving community comes together for GivingTuesday.

GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities; it provides a platform for them to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners - nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals - to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness.

Calgary's Third ACTion Film Festival is tapping in to the spirit of Giving Tuesday, asking people to send holiday wishes in this unusual year with a video Christmas card. The Season’s Greetings Video Card campaign allows those who can't be physically together a chance to share a heartfelt message with those who matter most.

For a $15 donation, the festival will add a festive holiday border to your video and share it on its social media platforms. There are only 120 posting spots available.

"It doesn’t have to be Christmas wishes that you send! Just share a message that is meaningful to you and remind everyone we aren’t alone this season," said Third ACTion Film Festival executive director Mitzi Murray.

Other ideas for a video message include:
• Merry Christmas
• Happy Hanukkah
• Happy Festivus
• Happy New Year
• Happy Kwanza
• Happy Winter Solstice
• Happy Birthday
• Share a message of hope
