FROG LAKE, Alta - RCMP have confirmed that the remains of a man found in a structure fire on Frog Lake First Nations in November of 2021 were those of a missing Saddle Lake man.

On Nov. 30, 2021, Phillip Wade Favel, 44, was reported missing to St. Paul RCMP. He had last been seen on Nov. 21, 2021 at his residence in Saddle Lake. Favel was known to travel to Frog Lake and Edmonton

Just a few days before Favel was reported missing, Elk Point RCMP responded to a structure fire in Frog Lake. The Nov. 26 fire was deemed arson but the residence was found to be unsafe to enter during the initial portion of the investigation.

"RCMP Major Crimes attended Frog Lake First Nation on Dec. 21, 2021. With the assistance of St. Paul and Elk Point RCMP, Edmonton General Investigation Section and Firestorm Consulting, investigators located human remains inside the residence," according to information recently released by RCMP.

"DNA testing was required to determine identity of the remains."

On April 6, 2022, the remains were positively identified. Major Crimes have taken carriage of the investigation, which is ongoing, according to police.
