Crash kills father and two young sons from Okotoks

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to aid Erin Cochlin as she copes with losing her husband, Mike, eight-year-old son Liam, and five-year-old son Quinn.

OKOTOKS — A community is banding together to support an Okotoks mother in the wake of tragedy.

Mike Cochlin and his sons, Liam, 8, and Quinn, 5, were killed in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 5A near Stump Lake, B.C. on Sunday, Feb. 23.

The trio was returning home from what friends describe as a "special road trip" when their car failed to negotiate a curve in the road and went over a concrete barrier and down a steep embankment.

When police arrived on-scene around 5:45 p.m., 47-year-old Mike was already deceased. Liam was rushed to hospital in nearby Kamloops but succumbed to his injuries and Quinn was airlifted, in critical condition, to Vancouver.

It was announced Wednesday afternoon he would remain on life support until the evening, when his organs would be donated.

Amy Davies, a friend of the Cochlin family, updated the GoFundMe page she launched to help mother, Erin Cochlin, around 4 p.m. on Feb. 26.

"Quinn will be donating his heart, liver and kidneys tonight. He is a hero," she wrote. "The family appreciates, and is thankful for, all of the love and offers of support. In the near future there will be a time to celebrate the lives of Mike, Liam and Quinn."

Davies started the GoFundMe campaign for the family on Feb. 25 to help Erin as she coped with the loss of her husband and first-born child and waited for news on Quinn's status.

"We want to surround Erin at this time with all our love and support," wrote family friend Amy Davies on the fundraising page. "This GoFundMe campaign has been set up to provide immediate and long term help for Erin Cochlin, wife to Mike, and mother to sweet Quinn and Liam."

B.C. RCMP said an investigation involving the B.C. Coroners Service is ongoing.

The GoFundMe page can be found under Cochlin Family Support Fund.
