According to a study by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and the University of British Columbia, 40 per cent of Canadians say their mental health has deteriorated due to COVID-19. Planet Fitness head of health and fitness Teddy Savage offers tips for anyone experiencing pandemic-related stress and anxiety.

Make time for exercise: When we exercise it helps reduce stress and anxiety and charge up the happy mood chemicals in our body. Exercise can range from low intensity, like a walk or yoga, to higher intensity, like an online class or a long run.

Be mindful: That saying “we are our harshest critic,” is quite true – but the pandemic is not something we are accustomed to dealing with so stop judging yourself so much.

Find a distanced workout buddy: Having someone to workout with will ensure you do that. It could even lead to a new relationship and include sharing feelings with another--which combats loneliness too.
