According to Kimberly Nelson, Calgary is not the world's most pleasant city in which to walk. The pedestrian advocate and president of Bike Calgary says the streets are too wide, the allotted time for crossing them too short and the walking environment generally inhospitable to people on foot, making it particularly difficult for those with disabilities. "Just getting across a street can be enough of a challenge to make people not want to walk in this city," she says.
