Ikea Canada is encouraging its shoppers to give back this Black Friday – in the form of gently-used furniture bought from the store.
The company has launched a nationwide buyback program that will see it offer up to double the product’s original value in store credit.
Customers can upload photos of the furniture they are looking to sell to the Ikea website. If they are approved, they can drop off the items at an Ikea store in exchange.
The sell-back value of each item will depend on its condition, as reviewed by store employees.
The furniture will then be given a second life through resale in the store's As-Is section or through its donation efforts.
Ikea promoting sustainability
The initiative is part of Ikea's push for sustainable solutions to help its customers save water, energy, and waste.
"On one of the biggest shopping days of the year, we want to change the conversation from one of mass consumption to mass circularity, and show how sustainable living can be easy and affordable for everyone," said the head of sustainability for Ikea Canada, Melissa Barbosa.
"This Black Friday, we will redefine savings by inspiring and enabling Canadians to save not only money, but also water, energy, waste, and resources."
The campaign will run from mid-November to the end of the month.
