Costco Wholesale opened its first Canadian Business Centre in western Canada this week, cutting the ribbon at 10310 – 186 Street NW in Edmonton. The 127,000-square-foot facility is creating 140 local jobs and is geared to the needs of small, medium and large businesses.
“We are thrilled to offer this new service, which will better respond to the needs of local business owners,” said Marc-André Bally, Vice President of Business Centres and Ancillary Businesses, Costco Wholesale Canada. “The Costco Business Centre concept is already a success in Ontario and Quebec, and we look forward to offering the same benefits to businesses in Alberta."
Though open to all Costco members, the new Business Centre concept differs from the traditional Costco warehouse, with more than 70 per cent of the product offerings unique to the Business Centre. These include some 3,200 items targeted at restaurants, convenience/grocery stores and offices, from bulk food items to commercial kitchen supplies and office furniture.
For home shoppers who may already wonder where to put the bulk sizes of flour, oil and such found at regular Costco warehouses, the Business Centre goes a step further. Here you'll find 16-litre canola oil, flours and sugars of up to 25 kilograms, parmigiana wheels, 10-kilogram jars of peanut butter and an 18.9 litre maple syrup. It's for business, after all, so members will also see commercial meat slicers, mixers and food processors.
"It's a vastly different selection of business merchandise, and there's even the bonus of white-glove, next business day delivery service," said Business Centre manager Benko said.
Members can shop in store and online by visiting Costcobusinesscentre.ca Open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (9-6 on Sundays), next-day delivery is offered to addresses inside a delivery zone extending across the Edmonton area. Annual fee for a business (or gold star) membership is $60. Memberships come with free household card and are valid at Costco locations worldwide.
Costco Wholesale operates 804 warehouses worldwide and 104 warehouses across Canada. The first Canadian Costco Wholesale location opened in Burnaby, BC in October 1985.
With Canadian headquarters in Ottawa, Costco Wholesale employs over 40,000 people across the country.
