Are you a fan of The Great Canadian Baking Show? Watch Edmonton native Zoya Thawer, 33, bake her best on season 6 of the CBC show, which launched in early October on the network and CBC Gem.
Thawer, a pediatric endocrinologist now making her home in Victoria, took time off from her practice this summer to compete in the popular food show. In her bio posted on the show's website, Thawer said she's been baking since childhood, after moving to Canada from Tanzania.
Thawer said that growing up, she kept her own cupboard with all she needed for kitchen experiments. Her mom is still her biggest source for baking advice, she said.
“This summer, I followed my dreams and took some time off from one thing I love to do another thing I love. That’s right folks, I will be baking in the tent with nine superb bakers! To say this is an honour is an understatement and I hope you’ll follow along,” she wrote on her Instagram, @allpurposezoya.
Thawer made it through the first two weeks focused on cakes, biscuits and bars. She tackles bread next.
