Garden party to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Come to a garden party this weekend, to celebrate the Queen's 70 years on the throne.

This weekend, Lieutenant Governor Salma Lakhani welcomes the public to the grounds of Government House in Edmonton for a special garden party in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s 70 years of service.

“The Platinum Jubilee is an extraordinary milestone for our Queen of Canada. This party is an opportunity for people to come together and celebrate the very special place that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II holds in our history and her remarkable service through the decades,”  said Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani.

The Platinum Jubilee Garden Party takes place on Saturday, June 4 at Government House, 12845 – 102 Avenue, Edmonton. The grounds open at 1:30 PM and the program runs from 2 PM to 4 PM.  The event is open to the public and tickets/reservations are not required.

The program will include performances by the Royal Canadian Artillery Band, the Jivin’ Belles and Indigenous dancers. Guests will also have opportunities to meet Lieutenant Governor Lakhani and His Honour Zaheer Lakhani, and to enjoy cake, cookies and lemonade.

Limited free parking is available at Government House however taking public transit is encouraged.

The outdoor event will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. In the case of cancellation, a notice will be posted at www.lieutenantgovernor.ab.ca and on Twitter @LtGovAB. A message will also be recorded at 780-427-7243.

As well, to mark the occasion, free admission will be offered at all provincial historic sites, interpretative centres and museums from June 3-5.

Although admission is free, there may be additional fees for some activities. Please visit the facility’s website in advance to find information on operating hours, program schedules and ticket reservation.
