I See the Light - St. Albert Singers Guild. Enjoy story and song with the annual Christmas production from longtime choral groups within the St. Albert Singers Guild. This year's event sees some 65 singers on stage at St. Albert United Church, 20 Green Grove Drive on Fr. Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. Donations for the food bank are gratefully accepted. ELLA winter courses--register now! Edmonton's Lifelong Learning Association (ELLA) opens registration for the upcoming winter session Dec. 5, with 21 new courses scheduled. Classes start Jan. 16. One of the science classes this term is a course on muscle health in aging taught by Dr. Carla Prado, who has just been hailed as one of the 100 most powerful women in Canada. For more, see my-ella.com . The Edmonton Lifelong Learning Association is a partnership between the city and the Faculty of Extension providing non-credit courses for learners aged 50 and over.
 
Minus One Dance Club - Dec. 10.  The Diamonds. Take in a social dance for those 55-plus. Singles and couples are welcome. Enjoy live music and dance, light refreshments and fun! Christmas at the Winspear is here! It's time to enjoy a variety of holiday ESO concerts, including Handel’s Messiah, A Very Merry Pops, (Dec 16-18) and A Lightly Classical Christmas--all will fill you with the Christmas spirit. Downtown Edmonton holiday light up - Come to Rice Howard Way in downtown Edmonton on Dec. 3, from 3-8 p.m., when the city officially kicks off the holiday season with art installations, music, a Christmas market, games and holiday illuminations. Make your own lantern, enjoy free chestnuts, maple taffy and hot beverages (while supplies last) and listen to live music along the way. Park for free at Edmonton City Centre East Parkade (10020 102A Avenue) from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on December 3 only. Festival Place - Beauty and the Beast - Festival Place in December features favourites like The Misery Mountain Boys, plus the holiday presentation of the musical Beauty and the Beast. Festival Players puts on the Disney favourite Dec. 16-30. Tickets at Ticketmaster or Festival Place Box Office, 780-449-3378. All performances at Festival Place, 100 Festival Way, in Sherwood Park. On Dec. 21, 22, and 23, join before the show for the Belle and Beast Feast--a buffet of beef, chicken, wine, potatoes, vegetables, salad and desserts. Ask the box office for ticket details.

Mavie's Mitten Tree - lunch and event, Dec. 14, 11:30-1:30 p.m. at Westend Seniors Activity Centre, 9629 176 St. Edmonton. To celebrate longtime volunteer Mavie, who turned 100 this year, WSAC celebrates the season of giving with a turkey meal, entertainment, door prizes, 50/50 draw and more. One Hit Wonders - Stage West Calgary - Enjoy two hours of non-stop music and great memories with One Hit Wonders. The musical revue by Howard Pechet and Tim French runs through Feb. 5, and includes a delicious buffet meal. Take in a toe-tappin' evening: you're guaranteed to be singing along. Alberta Ballet's The Nutcracker - Dec. 18, 1 p.m. A much-loved Christmas tradition, Alberta Ballet's enchanting take on Tchaikovsky's classic work is a must-see. At the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, 1415 14 Ave. NW in Calgary. See ticketmaster.ca for tickets.

Edmonton Christmas Market returns for its fourth year, and all 15 days will be held at Fort Edmonton Park. Through Dec. 18, find local Alberta vendors, light displays, culinary experiences, roving performers, festive live theatre, family-friendly workshops and horse-drawn wagon rides. With Condor Airlines, the market is also offering two non-stop flights to Frankfurt for a lucky #YEGXMASMARKET attendee. Head to Fort Edmonton Park, 7000 143 St. NW for all the fun.
