The Edmonton Film Society launches its winter film series ‘Love is in the Air' on February 8, and organizers are expecting upwards of 200 patrons will pour into the auditorium at the Royal Alberta Museum every Monday over the next several weeks to enjoy a series of films from the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. “I just hope that they are all entertained,” says the EFS's Taras Ostashewsky. “These films that we play are glossy, old fashioned films. There's clever and wit in the scripts, there's great production value, there's beautiful acting.”

Organizers are encouraging patrons to venture out of their comfort zones and choose to view a film with hopes of finding a new favourite. “We often get comments from people that they remember seeing this film when they were 15, or this is the first movie they went to on a date, or they remember seeing this at such and such a theatre downtown,” says Ostashewsky. As the Royal Alberta Museum winds down operation of its exhibits in preparation for a move to the new location on 97 Street and 103A Avenue, the Edmonton Film Society wants patrons to know that their scheduled screenings are still very much a go. “The auditorium is accessible through the main doors and you don't have to go through the museum proper,” says Ostashewsky. “We are still soldiering on.”

It's not yet clear what the future holds for the Edmonton Film Society screenings once the museum makes the big move. Ostashewsky says EFS and the museum need to decide if they want to continue with their positive relationship. It may come down to whether the society can afford to host screenings in the new space. “That won't be a discussion yet for another year, until that building is much closer to its completion,” says Ostashewsky.

General Admission to the Edmonton Film Society's latest series, 'Love is in the Air' is $6.00, and $5.00 for seniors. You can also purchase a pass for $30.00
