Canada's Brown wins 100-metre gold at Diamond League stop in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom — Canada's Aaron Brown edged Jamaica's Yohan Blake to win gold in the men's 100 metres on Saturday at the Diamond League stop in Birmingham, England.

Brown, from Brampton, Ont., finished first in 10.13 seconds. Blake took silver in 10.18 and Jerome Blake of Burnaby, B.C., earned bronze in 10.20. Andre de Grasse of Markham, Ont., was fourth in 10.24.

Canada also won gold in the men's 800 metres and the high jump.

Edmonton's Marco Arop took first place in the 800 with a time of one minute 45.41 seconds. Benjamin Robert of France was second (1:46.22) and American Bryce Hoppel was third (1:46.33).

In the high jump, Django Lovett of Surrey, B.C., had a season-best jump of 2.28 metres. 

He was three centimetres higher than Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy and Norbert Kobielski of Poland.
