TOKYO — Canada's Rylan Wiens finished with a bronze medal in the men's 10-metre platform Tuesday at a FINA Diving World Cup event.

Wiens, from Saskatoon, was 10th after the semifinals, but he posted a cumulative score of 488.55 in the final to secure a spot on the podium.

“That was probably the best event of my life,” Wiens said. “I was able to put in six dives and come out with a bronze medal at the World Cup which is pretty amazing.

"I was super happy with everything I did and hard work paid off.”

Thomas Daley of Britain won gold while Mexico’s Randal Willars Valdez took silver.

Nathan Zsombor-Murray of Pointe-Claire, Que., was third after the semifinals but slipped to fifth after scoring 462.10 in the final.

With both Wiens and Zsombor-Murray qualifying for the 10-metre final, Canada unlocked a second Olympic spot in the event.

On the women’s side, Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., finished fifth in the three-metre springboard final with a cumulative score of 316.05.

In the women’s 10-metre platform, Calgary's Caeli McKay scored 287.80 and finished 12th to earn a berth in the semifinals.
