Christina Chiarizia

1930 – 2020

Maria Christina Chiarizia, beloved wife of the late Carlo Chiarizia, passed away peacefully at the Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff, Alberta, November 13th at the age of 89.  Born in Sepino, Campobasso, Italy, she immigrated to Canada in 1958 with her son Michael, rejoining her husband Carlo in Alberta.

Christina worked earnestly throughout her life, raising Michael, supporting the hotel industry in Banff, and eventually helping care for her two grandchildren.

Christina and her family started in Canada by moving to Exshaw, Alberta, building a home and a life in the Bow Valley.  She moved with Carlo and Michael to Banff in 1970, where they found their permanent home. Christina delighted in providing food, wine, and warmth to her family and friends, ensuring no guest left hungry.  Christina was a fixture of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Banff and made many friends and connections in the Bow Valley Catholic Community.

Christina is survived and very missed by her son Michael, daughter-in-law Terry and grandchildren Lee and Daniel.  Christina was predeceased by her husband Carlo, her sister Lucia (Prato, Italy) and brother Christino (Imola, Italy).

The family wishes to extend many thanks to the Mineral Springs Hospital and their Nursing Staff who helped Christina during her stay there.

Funeral Mass will be Celebrated Friday, November 20, 2020 at 12 noon in the Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Rockies in Canmore with interment in the Canmore Cemetery following to be with her beloved Carlo.

Strict covid-19 guidelines now in place will be followed with regards to masking, social distancing and contact tracing in effect.  The church will allow 50 family and close friends to attend this funeral service. This will, unfortunately, not allow a reception to follow.
