DEKAM, Geertruida “Theresa”

Theresa, a woman of faith, integrity, and love, passed away into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on March 13, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Born July 12, 1933, in Almkerk, Netherlands, Theresa immigrated with her family to the Westlock area in 1949. After many years of working in fashion retailing and farming, she retired to Sherwood Park in 2010. In 1953, Theresa married her beloved husband Bert and they were inseparable for 67 years.

She will be dearly missed by her children and their spouses, Susan (Ed), John (Karin), Lori (Steve) and Rob (Cheryl); twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; siblings: Leonard, Paul, Elena and Annette.

Theresa is predeceased by her husband, Bert; brother, Antonie; parents, Joachim and Cornelia Zylmans.

Throughout her life, Theresa was known for her unwavering Christian faith, commitment to the church, and warm hospitality. Many knew her as a woman of integrity, reliability, and exceptional work ethic. She cherished interests such as fashion, gardening, landscaping, and music, but above all was passionate about spending quality time with her family and friends.

Theresa was a shining example of a life lived in service to others. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her gifts of encouragement, generosity, and willingness to help the lonely or those in need. Theresa’s smile, hugs, home-cooked meals, and baked Dutch pastries were a comfort to many.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all who have reached out with their love and support during this difficult time. They also extend heartfelt gratitude for the care, love, and compassion provided by the staff during her time spent at Lifestyle Options Schonsee.

A Celebration of Life will be held in honour of Theresa at 12:00 p.m., on March 31, 2023 at the Westlock Alliance Church. For those who are not able to attend, the Celebration will be livestreamed via www.westlockfuneralhome.com. In lieu of gifts, the family asks that you consider giving a simple gift of love and support to someone who needs it, just as Theresa would have done.

Theresa’s memory will forever be treasured by those who knew her. She lived her life with grace, kindness, and generosity, leaving a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
