James Edward Dick - “Bucky”

October 12, 1937 – October 15, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Dick on October 15, 2021 at the age of 84 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sharon Dick of Linaria, AB, and their children: Leah and Mitch Jones, and grandchildren Haylea, Kayla, and Jett; Blane and Erin Dick, and grandchildren Alison, Hayden, Emily, and Matthew; Tina and Kevin Wedick and grandchildren Emma, Amanda, Amy, and step sons Jonny and Devin; Debbie and Billy Gregoire, and grandchildren Bailey, Hanna, and Payton; and Lance and Deb Hernett of Phoenix, Arizona. Great grandchildren Gracelynn-Mae and Noah, Brooklyn, Jack and Brayden. He is also survived by brother Clyde Dick.

James was predeceased by his parents Hayden Dick and Winona Taylor, and his brother Randall Dick.

James was born in Phoenix, Arizona where his family were prominent farmers growing sweet potatoes, cotton, and other crops on what is now the city of Mesa, Arizona. As the city grew, the land was eventually sold to a California Developer that built one of the first gated communities in Arizona, a development called Leisure World. This is where James and Sharon spent most of their winters only to return to Linaria in late April each year to step onto the tractor to prepare for seeding and planting the garden.

James was incredibly proud of his wife, children and grandchildren and everyone loved to gather at “papa and nana’s place” for BBQs at the fire pit and for his famous homemade Mexican food. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends and equally liked to host family at his place in Arizona. James was better known to family and friends as “Bucky” or “Big Jim”. He was a big man with a big presence who had a life well lived. He will truly be missed.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the palliative care unit in Westlock, AB. Due to the current circumstances, a private family gathering will take place at Linaria’s Saint Marks cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’s memory to the AHS Westlock Healthcare Centre - Palliative Care Unit, 10220-93 Street, Westlock, AB, T7P 2G4
