Gladys "Roberta" DREW

 

Roberta Drew has passed away surrounded by loving family in Banff, Alberta, March 21, 2021.

Roberta was predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas Willard (Rusty) Drew.

Mother to daughters Laurie Drew and Leslie Reid (Douglas) and grandmother to Sally Reid (Kalen McConnell), Emma Walsh (Edward) and Grace McKenzie (Justin) and great grandmother to Mason, Rowan and Sam Walsh and Seth McKenzie.

Roberta was born April 16, 1927 and grew up in Bloomfield, Prince Edward County, on the Wilholme farm with her father John Morley Williams and mother Gladys Irene (nee Reid), her two younger sisters Betty and Shirley and brother Robert (Helen).

She graduated Teachers College at Trenton and taught at various schools throughout the County and Niagara Peninsula and is remembered as being a very generous and caring teacher to her many students over the years.

Roberta continued teaching until she retired and then enjoyed a rich and full lifetravelling and gardening, active in community curling and charities for adult literacy.

Rusty and Roberta enjoyed many years of cottage life in Grey County and Muskoka, boating, snowmobiling, golfing and entertaining, eventually moving to Huntsville permanently.  After Rusty’s passing Roberta returned to Picton, Prince Edward County where she settled into condo living close to family, her church since childhood, Bloomfield United and the familiar comforts of her County origins.

Roberta spent her last few years in care at St. Martha’s Long Term Care Residence, Banff, Alberta. The family would like to thank Dr. Hoegh-Petersen and the staff of Banff Mineral Springs Hospital for their diligent and heartfelt care which provided so much quality to her final days.

Roberta is remembered so fondly by family and friends, regarded as a fine lady and mentor, passionate of ideas and lover of nature.The day of interment at West Lake Church of Christ Cemetery will be held this summerand announced at a later date.
