HOLMES, Allan Charles

July 4, 1934 – July 30, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Allan Holmes, beloved husband of Beatrice Holmes (nee Eitzen) of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the age of 88 years. Allan was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

 

Allan was born in Calgary, AB on July 4, 1934. He attended Buttes one-room school before attending high school at Mount Royal. He was an awarded member of the Balzac Seed Cleaning Plant Board of Directors. Allan worked hauling gravel before becoming a heavy-duty mechanic, later receiving his outstanding excellence award with Cummins Diesel and eventually becoming a fulltime farmer. He loved to drive and had a passion for all types of equipment. Allan’s most memorable vacation was when he went to Hawaii. He will be most remembered for his lifetime of farming and love of his community in Balzac. 

 

Allan’s favourite quote was “Try to be good!”.

 

Besides his loving wife, Beatrice, Allan is survived by his two sons, Larry (Joan) and Chris (Vicky); and his three grandchildren, Hannah, Tessa (Deven), and Annalise. Allan is also survived by his brother, Dennis (Barb). Allan was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Janet of Balzac, AB, and his many cats and dogs. 

 

Funeral Services were held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, August 6 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service took place at Airdrie Cemetery. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
