1957 - 2022
Norman ‘Mort’ Edward MacLeod passed away at Airdrie, Alberta on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at the age of 65 years.

Norman was born January 27, 1957 at Innisfail, Alberta. He was raised on a farm in the community of Niobe, Alberta and was an active member with the Bowden-Innisfail Beef Club. Norman then moved into Innisfail, Alberta where he lived his whole life.

After graduating, he worked for Henday’s Sports Line where he acquired the nickname ‘Mort’ from sport. He was later employed by the Town of Innisfail where he held several positions over the past thirty years. Mort had a passion for sports, in his younger years he played football as a quarterback, he was also a hockey goalie, and played slow pitch and baseball. Mort also coached and was an umpire. The highlights of his sporting life were the trips with the slow pitch team that he coached to Toronto, Ontario and the Maritimes.

His favorite past time was watching the Edmonton Oilers, Saskatchewan Rough Riders and the Toronto Blue Jays on T.V. Mort also enjoyed the company of his two dogs and two cats.

Over the past year, Norman lived with his sister and brother-in-law in Airdrie, while he battled cancer. He was looking forward to his retirement and doing renovations to his house and yard.

Mort will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Tom (Bev) MacLeod of Innisfail, Alberta, his sisters, Marguerite Carroll of Chilliwack, British Columbia and Marianne (Manfred) Miko of Airdrie, Alberta, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mort was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Louise MacLeod, a brother, David, a sister, Jane Rigel and his brothers-in-law, Peter Carroll and Ralph Rigel. Mort will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

A Celebration of Mort’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 104, 1-5108 49 Avenue, Innisfail, Alberta on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. The Life Celebration will also be Live Streamed.  Please go to www.heartlandfuneralservices.com just prior to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022 and click on the 'Live Stream' tab in the upper right corner of the Home Page. Interment will take place after the Life Celebration at the Innisfail Cemetery.
