Lilli (nee Bjalek) Nakonechny

1933-2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother Lilli on the morning of June 20, 2020. Lilli was born on November 8, 1933, in Dubovets, Ukraine. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1950 and eventually settled in Edmonton, Alberta. Lilli finished high school and studied to become a nursing aid. In March 1964 she married the love of her life, William Nakonechny, and moved to the Nakonechny farm in Boyle, Alberta. She worked in the Boyle Hospital until the challenges of raising a family and shift work collided.

In 1980 Lilli’s beloved William succumbed to cancer. After William’s death, she decided to remain in Boyle and continue to run the farm. Lilli’s strong faith in God guided many of her life decisions. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, baking the best bread, cinnamon buns, and donuts, making perogies, knitting, and hayrides. She especially enjoyed road trips with her brother Albert.

Lilli is survived by her children Julian (Lisa), Luanne (Mark), Sally (John), Glenn (Ramona), and Melvin (Lucille), grandchildren (Ryan, Kelly, Jadon, Grant, Emily, Megan, Joshua, and Taylor), brothers Albert (Grace), Ted, Dick (Lynda) and Heidi (Chuck), and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her sister Hilda (Oscar) and brother Len.

She spent the past six and a half years being pampered at the Wild Rose Villa. We express gratitude to the staff at the Villa and Boyle Hospital for their outstanding kindness and care to our mother.

Given the limitations of these challenging times, Lilli will be remembered in a private family service on June 30, 2020. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Donation can be made to a children’s charity of your choice.
