SACHKO, William

March 2, 1924 - Liaszky, Poland

July 26, 2022 - Black Diamond, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that the family of William Sachko of Black Diamond, AB announces his peaceful passing on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the age of 98.

William was born in Liaszky, Poland on February 03, 1924 and immigrated with his parents to Canada in 1930 where they settled on a farm west of Hylo, AB.   He attended Normal School in Edmonton.  He began his teaching career at Old Trail and then on to Noral, Venice, Hylo, Lac La Biche, and Fort McMurray.  In 1979 William retired and he and Katie relocated to Boyle, AB.

William loved the outdoors. With a shovel and a hoe, he turned the soil into gardens of bountiful produce.  With an axe and a saw, he cut down trees and made piles of split firewood.  He even built a few log cabins.  William loved to hunt, but it was his skill with a fishing rod that made him famous with his family.  He loved going to the horseraces, playing cards, and Aggravation, and he was a big fan of curling and most sports.

In 2008 William and Katie moved to Black Diamond.  William later resided for a short time in Claresholm Long Term Care and for a few years in Tudor Manor Supportive Living (Okotoks), and in 2017 both he and Katie moved into the Rising Sun Long Term Care Centre (Black Diamond) until his passing.  The family would like to extend a heartful thanks to all those at the Rising Sun who provided Katie and William with such loving care over the years.

William was a respected presence in the lives of all his family and all those who knew him. He will be remembered and greatly missed by all.

William will be forever missed and remembered by his six children, Richard (Bonny), Delores (Ted), Robert (Laurie), Conrad (Judith), Corinna (Kevin), and Troy (Corrine); ten grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.  He will also be remembered by his sisters, Irene (Roy) and Meri; numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

William was predeceased by his loving wife, Katie in 2021; father Stefan, mother Yrena, brother Steve; and sisters, Olga and Nancy.

A private interment will be held at the South Noral/Caslan Cemetery. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Sheep River Trust, The Rising Sun Long Term Care, 11 Cimarron Common, Okotoks, AB T1S 2G1, telephone: (403) 995-5400.

In living memory of William Sachko, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
