Harvey Edward Thomas Shevalier, a proud veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the age of 83. 

Harvey was born on October 4, 1938 in Bracebridge, Ontario to Calvin and Margaret Shevalier. He grew up in Owen Sound, Ontario, with his four brothers, Orval, Roger, Bing and Maurice and three sisters, Norma, Betty and Sharon. 

At the age of 21, Harvey enlisted in the CAF, serving with 2nd Battalion PPCLI. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. His service took him to many areas of Canada and around the world. He saw service in Germany as a member of NATO Country Army and in Cyprus as a Peacekeeper with the United Nations.

Harvey was recognized over his years of service with numerous medals, including the Order of Military Merit, Queen’s Jubilee medals and the Veterans Affairs Commendation. 

Over the years Harvey was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion. As a member of Alberta-NWT Command, he served 12 years in various positions, working his way to President in 2005. 

Harvey is survived by his wife, Helen, his children, Maurice (Shelley), Mike (Elena), Marcel (Charlotte), Renée Shevalier-Lavin (Bob) and Dianne Oliveira (Paul), and his step-children, Murray Thompson (Peggy), Kathy Murch, Stephen Thompson, Sharon Boutin (Rick) and Marina Thompson and his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Calvin, his brother, Orval, and his first wife, Bernice and step daughter Karen. 

A celebration of life honouring Harvey will be held at the Sundre Legion on Saturday, July 2nd at 14:00.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sundre Legion or The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary.
