Ella Streicher of the Poplar Creek District, east of Olds, Alberta, died at the Didsbury Health Care Center on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the age of 100.

Ella was born in Schuler, Alberta to Alvina and Gottlib Schmautz on Dec. 29, 1922. In 1926 the family, now with sister Emma, born in1925, relocated to the Olds area. They finally settled in the Mayton district, west of Torrington. Brother John was born in 1926, sister Ivy in 1929, brother Harvey in 1935 and sister Lois in 1939.

Starting in 1938 the family helped to build Good Hope Lutheran Church, in Torrington. Ella was part of the very first confirmation class in this new church, which is now Trinity Lutheran Church.

She married Max Streicher in 1943 and they continued to farm in the Poplar Creek area until they retired in the 1980s. Ella and Max were blessed with two children, daughter Loraine Alvina, born in 1948, and son Larry Max, in 1958. Max passed away in 1990. Ella later married Ron Shingleton in 1996, who passed away in 2014. Ella also lost her daughter, Loraine Haderer, who passed away in 2012. 

Ella is survived by her brother, John Schmautz; son, Larry Max Streicher; granddaughters, Karen Scott and Deanna Haderer; great grandchildren, Brittany Rhett and Natcha Scott; and great-great grandson, Colt; and by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ella is also survived by the families of her step children, the Shingletons: Ted, Doug, Marlene and Kathy. 

Internment will take place at the Torrington East Cemetery on Tuesday May 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM. The funeral and reception will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Olds at 1:00 PM.
