VAN BOXTEL, Antonius Johannes

June 28, 1937 - June 5, 2021

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Antonius “Tony” van Boxtel of Smith, Alberta announce his peaceful passing at the age of 83 years with family at his side.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Corrie; daughters: Angie (Ron), Lucy, Corina (Boyde); son, Francis; grand/great-children: Mikal (Kim), Taylor, Tara (Stephane), Dustin, Dayna (Lucas), Kyla, Nikolas, Kassidy, Tony, Grayson, Drey, Koen, Mika; brother, Frans (Annie); brother-in-law, Piet; sister-in-law, Netje, and numerous relatives and friends in Australia, the Netherlands and the USA.

He was predeceased by his son, Anthony; son-in-law, Tony; siblings: Janus, Nellie, Bertha, Arnold, Mien, Martien, Jan, Annie, Truus; parents, Adrianus and Gertruda.

Tony first left the Netherlands to come to Canada as a farm exchange worker in 1959. After their marriage in 1961, Tony and Corrie returned to Tofield, AB where Tony worked as a farm laborer and where their five children were born. In 1967, he purchased a farm in the Otter Creek area, where he raised dairy cattle, pigs, beef cattle and horses. At times he also worked in lumber mills. Tony was an avid horseman and long-time member of the local gymkhana club, served on the Agricultural Service Board, and volunteered his time to many community groups. Tony will be remembered by those who knew him for his kindness, his humour, his strong work ethic, his quiet demeanor, and his love of “shooting the breeze” with anyone who had time to listen. He loved taking care of his farm and his animals. He appreciated his good neighbours and his friends. He loved his family, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Arriving in Canada with little money, and the dream of owning a farm of his own, he was proud of the life he made for himself and his family.

A private family inurnment at the Smith Community Cemetery will take place.
