November 12, 1984 – January 11, 2021

We are saddened by the sudden loss of our beloved daughter, sister and mother, Masha van der Sluijs on January 11, 2021 at her residence in Calgary, Alberta. Masha was born on November 12, 1984 on the family farm in Westerlee (gem. Scheemda) in the Netherlands.

Masha is lovingly remembered by her daughters Trinity and Jewel, parents Herman and Marijke, sisters Jeanine van der Sluijs and Angelique Vick (husband Myron, and children Stryton and Rayelle), grandmother Aafje van der Sluijs; and her many other family members and friends in Alberta, New Brunswick and the Netherlands.

Masha grew up in the Netherlands until the age of 16 when the whole family moved to Olds, Alberta. While living in the Netherlands she spent most of her time either riding horses, which she had a tremendous talent for, as well as summer holidays at the beach, ocean and dunes near her grand-parents and uncle’s farm in Noord-Holland, and any other free time was spent with her close friends which she loved dearly.

After moving to Canada, she became an independent young lady with a passion for helping others, which she did through the different jobs she held over the years, during and after she attended high school and college. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends going camping, being outdoors, and spending time at the river. Of course, life brought her ups and downs, but she was never one to let on if she was struggling be it with health issues or personal struggles, showing her determination to make the best of any situation.

Masha always enjoyed keeping busy and was a hard worker. She loved the people she met both through her work and in her social life. She was excellent with people of all walks of life, and everyone that had the pleasure of meeting Masha knew her as the most positive, caring, and joyous person in their lives.
Masha will always be remembered for her kindness, her infectious smile and laugh, and her passion to enjoy life to the fullest with those around her.
