Police say two nearby collisions believed related to shooting, thought to be targeted

Calgary police say they believe a fatal shooting in the city's Vista Heights neighbourhood was a targeted attack.

Police were called to the 2500 block of 23 Street NE just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday, where officers found the body of a man with gunshot wounds.

A short time later, officers responded to two collisions believed to be related to the shooting.

One person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries in one collision, which occurred further along 23 Street NE.

Police took one man into custody at the scene of the second collision near the intersection of 26 Street NE and Sunridge Boulevard NE.

The person in custody and the victims are believed to be known to each other.

Anyone with information about the shooting, or with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area is asked to contact police.
