Diamond Valley break-in suspect facing 70 charges

30-year-old Calgary man has been charged in relation to 25 break-and-enters in southern Alberta, including one in Diamond Valley.

DIAMOND VALLEY - A suspect has been charged in a series of break and enter offences, including one in Diamond Valley. 

Cooperation between the RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), the Calgary Police Service and Lethbridge Police Service led to charges being laid against a Calgary man for 25 break and enters, RCMP said. 

The crimes were committed in rural communities including Diamond Valley, Strathmore, Vulcan, Raymond and Coaldale, as well as in Calgary and Lethbridge. 

David Letourneau-Janveaux, 30, of Calgary, has been charged with 70 offences relating to the incidents. 

The charges include: 

  • Break and Enter to Commit Theft 
  • Break and Enter to Commit Mischief 
  • Mischief Over $5,000 
  • Theft Over $5,000 
  • Possession of Break in Instruments 
  • Unauthorized Possession in Motor Vehicle 
  • Possession of Prohibited Weapon 
  • Possession a Firearm Knowing it’s Possession was Unauthorized 
  • Unauthorized Transport of a Firearm 

Police say the suspect drove an electric scooter to different locations and used an angle grinder or concrete saw to gain access to ATMs. They believe more than $15,000 was stolen in total. 

The RCMP became involved on June 10, when the suspect broke into a business in Diamond Valley. The suspect was arrested on July 14 during a break and enter at a business in Calgary. 

After a judicial interim release hearing, Letourneau-Janveaux was remanded into custody and his next RCMP court appearance is in Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary on Aug. 16.
