Shawn David Desharnais was handed a suspended sentence, probation, and a firearm prohibition at the Airdrie courthouse on Jan. 18, a year and a half after being charged related to pointing a firearm during a road rage incident.

Desharnais is prohibited from owning or being in possession of a weapon for ten years and must participate and complete counselling for anger management, said the judge during docket court on Jan. 18.

Other conditions included maintaining good behaviour, reporting to a probation officer, having no contact with the complainant, and a ban from going near the complainant, among others.

On Aug. 1, 2022, Airdrie RCMP responded to reports of an erratic driver on Highway II at Yankee Valley Boulevard at 8:45 p.m.

A silver sedan was reportedly speeding while travelling southbound on Highway II, according to an Airdrie RCMP press release. The driver of the sedan allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation with another driver heading south, before pointing a firearm at the vehicle.

RCMP located a vehicle that matched the silver sedan's description in Meadowbrook that same day. An Airdrie resident was taken into custody and an Airsoft gun was found in the vehicle.

At the time, Desharnais was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released on a no cash recognizance. He was later charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, and careless use of a firearm.
