LETTER: Bombing of civilians not a war

'I stand firmly with the people of Ukraine.'
letter-sta

As a child, I lived through the Second World War in Glasgow, an industrial city and port in the west of Scotland. I remember rationing. I carried my red Mickey Mouse gas mask everywhere and I’m pleased to say never had to wear it for the purpose for which it was intended. I remember nights sitting in the air raid shelter with my Mum, little brothers, and neighbours waiting for the “all clear” siren to sound once the bombing had ceased.

In my view, Russian President Vladimir Putin is not fighting a war. He is bombing civilians. I stand firmly with the people of Ukraine.

Irene Walker, St. Albert
