LETTER: Heron's response to Cooper's protest attendance unfair

Re: "Heron defends statement over Cooper's attendance at rally," The Gazette, Feb. 2.

I am writing to express my disappointment in Mayor Cathy Heron's recent response to MP Michael Cooper's picture at the Ottawa protest. It seems she could not write her condemnation of Cooper fast enough, which displays not only unfairness, but a lack of maturity on Heron's behalf.

Having seen the picture of Cooper in front of the flag, it appears to me he was about 30 to 50 feet away from it. Is it possible he did not know it was there? Most certainly. Is there any evidence whatsoever he knew it was there, supported it, or purposely had his picture taken in front of it? None, whatsoever.

By contrast, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was photographed looking directly at a Nazi flag. His response? "Thank you for coming sir."

Where was Heron's condemnation of Trudeau's welcoming of the individual, and the flag he was proudly displaying? I have searched for one, but to no one's surprise, none can be found.

I expect better from our mayor. Her premature response was immature and has done nothing but reflect negatively on her.

Kenneth Henderson, St. Albert
