LETTER: Heron's, Sohi's comments on Cooper unprofessional

'It appears that when this opportunity arrived, both St. Albert Mayor Cathy Heron and Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi jumped at the chance to jointly attack a Conservative MP with their comments.'

On Jan. 29 MP Michael Cooper was asked for some comments by a CBC Ottawa reporter. Photographs were taken of Cooper with a very inappropriate flag being carried by a masked individual in the background while he was being interviewed. It would appear to anyone with an objective viewpoint that this was indeed a staged photograph, and Cooper was a victim of the very divisive, unsettling, and negative political environment we have all had thrust upon us and which is being actively promoted by mainstream media.

It appears that when this opportunity arrived, both St. Albert Mayor Cathy Heron and Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi jumped at the chance to jointly attack a Conservative MP with their comments. I was offended and disappointed by this unprofessional action by both mayors. Doesn't this violate St. Albert Bylaw 38/2017 regarding council code of conduct? Or a similar bylaw in Edmonton with regard to Sohi? Cooper has been and continues to be a fine representative in Ottawa.

Please be aware that as citizens of St. Albert and Canadians, we must expect and demand that the high standards of professional conduct referred to in the bylaw are consistently followed by our elected representatives.

Roger Leachman, St. Albert
