Re: "Tougher tone needed from province on COVID-19" May 5 Gazette.

Is it not increasingly evident that Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and his ministers have diminished the legitimacy of government necessary to guide Albertans through the COVID-19 crisis? Can Albertans feel confidence in Kenney and his ministers, who have waffled with important decisions and wallowed in political self-preservation? Should it not be a paramount goal of Kenney and his ministers to collaborate with all levels of government and with public-sector workers to co-ordinate the most efficacious response to the COVID-19 crisis free of partisan machinations?

We need leadership that garners trust rather than playing the blame game with the federal government and we need leadership that is attuned to the science and perspectives of public-sector experts and front-line workers. It is time for higher-functioning leadership to achieve the outcomes Albertans deserve in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
