LETTER: Shame to see current site of former Hole farm

What should have been a beautiful green space, a park preserve, is now destroyed by the greed of our council members who have permitted this “progress.”

This is a photo of what’s happening with Lois and Jim Holes’s original farm here in St Albert. The little red house would have been their original home. Acres of lush, beautiful trees, orchards, and gardens are now wiped out in the name of progress — that is, money.

Shame on St. Albert city council that this was never designated a sacred heritage site — the Holes being a vital element in our history.

We watch the birds scattered in bewilderment. They’ve lost their homes. What was once nature in her profound glory, trees near 100 years old providing shelter and exquisite beauty, now lie on the ground waiting to be mulched.

Hollow preaching about preserving the environment is exactly that. What should have been a beautiful green space, a park preserve, is now destroyed by the greed of our council members who have permitted this “progress.”

Elizabeth D. Pawluk, St. Albert
