LETTER: Truckers get bad rap in mainstream reporting on protests

'I can see that you would be upset. Self-serving and badly behaved individuals and small groups with complete lack of direction, respect, nor abilities to manage their behaviours are the people who have been doing these things. It is not the truckers who have their families with them.'

Re: "Freedom Convoy abuses its platform to create chaos," Opinion, The Gazette, Feb. 9.

Anna Borowiecki, where are you getting your information from? It seems clear to me you’re getting it from mainstream media, which has been proven to be censored and controlled by a number of corporations who have not been reporting news at all but rather continuing to report the narrative.

I am receiving live postings on people's phones directly from Ottawa as well as non-mainstream media sites posting live interviews. This includes interviews with a manager of Tim Hortons who is extolling the virtues of the truck drivers and their families who have been helping him clean his floors, take out his garbage, keep the bathrooms clean, and in general who are contributing to the upkeep of his business.

The postings that are on people's phones are uncensored uncontrolled and live. That’s where the news is not the narrative being pitched by mainstream media.

I can see that you would be upset. Self-serving and badly behaved individuals and small groups with complete lack of direction, respect, nor abilities to manage their behaviours are the people who have been doing these things. It is not the truckers who have their families with them. The small groups that have caused the damage are the ones that need to be accountable and held responsible.

My parents as well survived Hitler’s war and they see exactly the same manoeuvring happening with government as happened there. We must be very cautious that we do not naïvely immediately believe that our leaders have our best interest at heart, especially in the capitalist system we live in. I would suggest perhaps you find people who do know some truckers there and ask them for live-feed videos. There is a sense of love and warmth and camaraderie there that this country has not seen in a while.

There’s so much more out there than what you’re getting on mainstream media. And everything that is coming out there aside from mainstream media is very dignified, hopeful, and very friendly, warm, kind, well-mannered Canadian news. We are either part of the problem by not keeping our minds open or we are part of the solution by seeking answers all the time and always asking questions.
