LETTERS: Gas, electricity rebates unfairly subsidize heavy users

Re: "How do you feel about the province's decision to offer Albertans a break on fuel tax and an electricity rebate?" Poll, StAlbertToday.ca, March 9 to 16.

Your poll on gas and electricity rebates does not give an option to dislike this policy. It only gives options on how much you think you will benefit. The fact that this policy subsidizes heavy users more than economical users is unfair. Why not give people a tax break on their income tax so that this subsidy goes to the neediest?

This gas tax rebate that is supposed to go to roads and infrastructure for vehicles will now have to be made up by everyone, including those who have chosen to walk or take public transit rather than drive to work. Why should those of us who sacrifice our time to save carbon emissions have to subsidize those who insist on the convenience of driving?
