Active COVID-19 cases in St. Albert dropped by five on Friday down to 124 cases, a level on par with what the city had in mid-November.
New cases in the city climbed by five, from 1,915 on Thursday to 1,920 on Friday. Recoveries jumped by 10, from 1,754 to 1,764 on Friday.
Currently, the city has 178.2 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than Edmonton's 205.6 cases per 100,000 and Beaumont's 209 cases per 100,000, but higher than other capital region municipalities like Fort Saskatchewan (99.8 per 100,000), Strathcona County (109.8 per 100,000), Spruce Grove (98.1 per 100,000), Stony Plain (133.9 per 100,000) and Leduc (107.2 per 100,000).
In Sturgeon County, there are currently 19 active cases. The county added two more cases in the last 24 hours while one more person recovered, for a total of 546 people recovered since the pandemic began. The county has 68 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people.
Morinville has 26 active cases with 332 people having recovered from the virus in total. The town added seven cases in the past 24 hours, with no recoveries reported. The town has 227.8 cases per 100,000 people.
Across Alberta, another 543 cases were diagnosed in the past 24 hours, with 11,591 tests completed for a positivity rate of 4.7 per cent.
There are currently 7,805 active cases of COVID-19, with 594 people in the hospital and 110 of those in intensive care. Fourteen new deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the total COVID-19 related deaths to 1,620 since the pandemic began.
Alberta is reporting 12 new COVID-19 variant cases and so far there are have been 37 variant cases in total. Thirty-one of those cases involve the U.K. variant and six involve the South African variant. Three of the U.K. variant are not linked to travel, although they are linked to each other.
The province has given out 104,327 doses of vaccine as of Jan. 28 but will be facing vaccine shipment delays in the coming weeks.
