Traffic lights along Boudreau Road are now working properly after drivers in St. Albert reported getting stuck at red lights that wouldn't change.

City crews fixed traffic lights with issues on Boudreau from St. Albert Trail to Curial Drive on March 4. City staff will continue to monitor the roadway to make sure no other issues remain, according to the city.

"I am not entirely sure what was wrong, but they had to reset everything and are now monitoring to make sure everything continues to work properly," wrote Cory Sinclair, city communications manager in an email to the Gazette. "I know they are also continuing to investigate to try to figure out the exact source of the malfunction."

If anyone experiences issues or concerns with traffic signals, drivers can report it to the city by calling 780-459-1500. Let them know the location of the intersection, the direction you were travelling, time of day and what happened.

"City staff and repair crews appreciate everyone’s patience while the issues were being addressed."

Around 11 p.m. on March 3, a post on a St. Albert social media page asked where to call to report a problem with traffic lights. The person wrote they saw at least six cars drive through a red light at the intersection of Akins Drive and Boudreau because of how long it took for the light to change.

The next morning, Mayor Cathy Heron acknowledged on social media she had heard reports of substantial problems with intersection signals along Boudreau Road and the city is working to resolve the issue.

St. Albert RCMP Const. MJ Burroughs wrote in an email that RCMP are not involved with this issue and deferred to the city for information on what intersections were affected and why.

However, if drivers are experiencing issues at an intersection where the traffic lights aren't functioning, it should be treated as a four-way stop, she said.
