Three more St. Albertans have lost their lives to COVID-19, bringing the total deaths recorded by the province up to 35 since the pandemic began.
Over the weekend, three more deaths were reported to Alberta Health, all associated with the outbreak at the Youville Home. All three cases included comorbidities.
On Jan. 24, a woman in her 90s died. One day later, a man in his 80s died. On Jan. 28, a man in his 90s died.
Across the province, 66 per cent of all deaths from COVID-19 have happened in designated supportive living and long-term care facilities like the Youville Home.
Over the weekend, St. Albert saw another 12 cases of COVID-19 diagnosed, for a total of 1,932 since the pandemic began. Another 22 people recovered, for a total of 1,786 since the pandemic began. The city currently has 111 active cases.
Currently, the city has 159.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than Edmonton's 186.1 cases per 100,000 and Beaumont's 266.4 cases per 100,000, but higher than other capital region municipalities like Fort Saskatchewan (88.7 per 100,000), Strathcona County (102.8 per 100,000), Spruce Grove (87.5 per 100,000), Stony Plain (138.8 per 100,000) and Leduc (119.1 per 100,000).
In Sturgeon County, there are currently 24 active cases. The county added nine more cases over the weekend while four more people recovered, for a total of 550 people recovering since the pandemic began. The county has 85.9 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people.
Morinville has 28 active cases with 334 people having recovered from the virus in total. The town added four cases over the weekend, with two more recoveries reported. The town has 245.3 cases per 100,000 people.
Across Alberta, another 335 cases were diagnosed in the past 24 hours, with 7,294 tests completed for a positivity rate of 4.6 per cent.
There are currently 7,307 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 556 people in the hospital and 102 of them in intensive care. Ten new deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the total COVID-19-related deaths to 1,649 since the pandemic began.
There are currently active alerts or outbreaks in 298 schools, or about 12 per cent of all schools in the province. There are a total of 701 COVID-19 cases associated with these schools.
The province has given out 106,347 doses of vaccine as of Jan. 31 but will be facing more vaccine shipment delays in the coming weeks.
