Those looking to take part in Halloween festivities this weekend are in luck, as there are a few local events taking place before trick-or-treaters take the city by storm on Tuesday.

   1. Halloween Haunt at Servus Place

The City of St. Albert has organized a family-friendly event on Saturday afternoon at Servus Place that features a scavenger hunt, a public skate where costumes are encouraged, archery tag, candy, and so much more.

Those looking to attend the event, called the Halloween Haunt, will need to purchase a daily admission wristband, which is $6 for youth 12 and under, $8 for teens between the ages of 13-17, and $10.50 for adults. Servus Place membership holders will receive free admission.

“Come show off your costume as you play, collect treats and burn off that Halloween energy,” the city's website says.

The event goes from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m..

   2. Hocus Focus at St. Albert Centre

Another family-friendly Halloween event taking place on Saturday is Hocus Focus at St. Albert Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m..

The event, which is being organized by mall staff, will feature a professional photographer to take pictures of youth dressed in costume for the price of a donation to the St. Albert Food Bank.

As well, thanks to Chamber's Plumbing and Heating, those who complete a city-wide scavenger hunt will be entered for door prizes at the mall, including a Nintendo Switch with a $100 St. Albert Centre gift card, an electric scooter and a $100 mall gift card, and an iPad with another $100 mall gift card.

The scavenger hunt begins by picking up a Halloween passport from Pearson's Independent Grocer on St. Albert Trail, and collecting passport stamps from 15 different St. Albert businesses. Passports can be picked up until Friday evening.

For more information about the scavenger hunt, visit Chamber's Plumbing and Heating's Instagram account.

   3. Halloween Puzzle Championship at Mission Fun and Games

St. Albert's iconic board and card game store Mission Fun and Games is hosting a puzzling tournament on Saturday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m..

Registered teams of up to four people will have three hours to assemble a 1000-piece Frankenstein-themed puzzle, and the winning team will receive a Halloween Edition of the Patchwork board game, and a copy of the Fiesta De Los Muertos board game.

Second place finishers will also win a copy of Fiesta De Los Muertos.

Registration to take part is $30, and there are only six spots available, according to the event's registration page.

   4. Outloud's Halloqween Drag Show

St. Albert's 2SLGBTQIAP+ youth support and advocacy group is hosting its second annual Halloween-themed drag show at the Arden Theatre on Saturday night starting at 7:30 p.m.

The event will feature performers from the Edmonton-based non-profit Imperial Sovereign Court of the Wild Rose, and the Edmonton-based Party Queens, and serves as a major fundraising event for Outloud.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased through the Arden Theatre's website

   5. Hallowed-Ground at the St. Albert Public Library

Neutral Ground, a relatively new non-profit in St. Albert focused on creating community connections through shared hobby interests, is hosting a Halloween-themed get together at the library on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m..

The event is free to attend but donations are encouraged.

Attendees will have the opportunity to take part in some role-playing activities, board games, painting, and a LEGO competition.

A live auction will also take place to raise funds for Neutral Ground, with Oilers, Arden Theatre, and Landmark Cinema tickets available.
