A man arrested at his home just outside St. Albert has been charged in a fraud case involving more than $70,000 worth of landscaping materials.

Sanad Rayas, 35, of Edmonton was arrested at his private residence near Big Lake on Thursday, Sept. 16.

He has been charged with five counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of a forged document, possession of a stolen credit card, and possession of identity documents not in his name.

Four landscaping companies were defrauded of more than $70,000 worth of materials in the case, including more than 90,000 kilograms of armour stone and outdoor lighting.

The St. Albert RCMP Crime Reduction Unit initiated the investigation in early September. A search of the property recovered most of the stone and landscaping material, which had been installed in an elaborate backyard oasis.

The search also located a commercial-sized zero-turn lawnmower.

Rayas is scheduled to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court on Monday, Oct. 18.
