Province reports two more COVID-related deaths in St. Albert

Since Friday, there have been 112 new cases of COVID-19 officially diagnosed in the city

The COVID-related deaths of two more St. Albertans were reported over the weekend.

On Sunday, St. Albert registered a fifth death from the virus. Monday brought another reported death. In total, official numbers show six St. Albertans have died from the virus, though several COVID-related deaths earlier this fall at the St. Albert Retirement Residence are not reflected in that tally.

Since Friday, there have been 112 new cases of COVID-19 officially diagnosed in the city, including the city's highest ever single-day case climb on Saturday when 63 new cases were reported. Seventy-two more people have recovered.

In Sturgeon County, there are 121 active cases with 310 people having recovered since the beginning of the pandemic. Morinville has 66 active cases with 147 people having recovered from the virus.

Across the province, another 1,887 new cases were identified on Monday, with 716 people in the hospital and 136 of them in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Currently there are 21,123 active cases in the province.

In the past 24 hours, 20,416 tests were run with a positivity rate of 9.2 per cent.

The province reported the deaths of another 15 Albertans on Monday.

Over the weekend, Alberta added 3,307 new cases: 1,590 on Saturday and 1,717 on Sunday. Sunday also brought the grim news of 22 more deaths, the most reported in a single day so far. On Saturday, 13 deaths were reported.

Seven hundred thirty-three Albertans have now died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

Alberta will soon receive 29,250 doses of Pfizer vaccine and will start immunizing priority health-care workers on Wednesday.
