Ewaschuk, Ferna

Ferna of St. Albert passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 18, 2022, at the age of 79.

Ferna grew up in Flatbush, AB, in a house full of family, friends, food and music.  She later moved to Edmonton where she completed her high school and graduated from the U of A X-Ray Technician program.  Ferna married Ernie on May 16th, 1964 and started a family in Edmonton.  She worked and supported Ernie while he finished his University education.  Ernie’s work took him away from the family a lot.  To spend more time together they made a decision to raise their three girls on their farm near Newbrook, AB.

A hard worker and incredible cook, Ferna always had her door and heart open to family and friends.  Everyone could count on a great meal, card game, coffee and visit (followed by more food!).  After the girls graduated high school, Ferna and Ernie eventually made their way back to St. Albert where they continued to work, enjoy their grandkids and eventually retire.

Ferna and Ernie’s adventurous spirit took them all over the world.  Their more memorable trips had them trekking across Spain, birdwatching and hiking the Galapagos Islands and Amazon jungle, exploring Eastern Europe, sightseeing through Asia, and an epic family trip to Costa Rica.  Every year was filled with family camping, canoeing, birdwatching, fishing and ski trips. On these trips, Ferna was the head chef, canoe shuttler, baby-sitter, games organizer and base camp manager. Being with her family were her most cherished moments.

Ferna was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Greta Kasawski, and her brother Edwin.

She will be forever in the heart of  her soul mate and loving husband, Ernie; her three daughters, Carolyn (Jim), Tara (Jeff) and Cheryl (Jeff); her six grandkids, Danya, Devon, Reed, Drew, Clayton and Gregor; and her brother Theron (Jeanette).

A Celebration of Ferna’s beautiful life will be held at a later date.
