It is with sadness and love that we announce Sharon Ina Cowan passed away peacefully with family by her side in Calgary on Thursday, April 1st, 2021 at the age of 73 years.

A devoted wife and mother, she will be greatly missed by her husband of 51 years John Cowan; son Stephen Cowan; daughter Lori (Sean) Korney and brother Keith (Gail) Johnson. Sharon was predeceased by her parents William and Eileen Johnson.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Sharon and John raised their children in Turner Valley before briefly moving to Grande Prairie and then settling in Nanton. Sharon met John while he was a city transit driver. The only time he ever drove the Parkhill Bus Route, Sharon got on as a passenger and the rest was history.

During her employment with the Foothills School Division, Sharon’s patience and kindness was instrumental in shaping the young lives of students with disabilities. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, having her nails painted with anything ‘sparkly’ and baking her famous chocolate chip cookies and homemade buns.

Raised in the Baptist Church, Sharon’s faith remained strong throughout her life and we can take comfort in the fact that her last request to “go home” is now fulfilled.

There will be no service at this time but a Celebration of Sharon’s Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to your local Salvation Army.
