April 8, 1929 to June 27, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Wayne Wells announces his passing on June 27, 2022 at the age of 93 years. His children and grandchildren were by his side for the week he was in the Sturgeon Community Hospital.
Donald was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Irene Wells (Paul) and will be greatly missed by his children Mark (Jennifer), Dwight (Suzanne), Marcia, Donald (Leslie), Stephen (Tammy), Garth (Svetlana), and Carolyn, as well as his 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Don, born in Radville Saskatchewan on April 8, 1929 to Clarence and Inga (Olson) Wells, married on March 16, 1913. His brothers and sisters Mildred, Evelyn, Ruby, Clarence (Sonny), Shirley, Richard (Dick), and Howard have all predeceased Don.
DW Wells as he was known, served his country for over 42 years in the RCAF and as RCAF Quality Control manager for Northwest Industries in Edmonton, where he both started and finished his career. During that time, he was posted to North Bay, Europe, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, and Alberta, with several posting for peace keeping. He used to say, he started on props, finished on jets. He repaired airframes, engines, and instrumentation, and retired as a Master Warrant Officer. Retiring twice, he received letters of congratulations from both Pierre Trudeau and Brian Mulroney. He was known for his sense of humour, his dedication to Dorothy, his family, and his country.
A service is not planned. Both Don and Dorothy preplanned cremation. Dorothy’s ashes were scattered at her “piece of heaven” at Lake Isle, and as per Dons wishes, he will be joining her forever.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the Sturgeon Community Hospital, as well as the caregivers at the St Albert Retirement home for their
compassion and assistance.
