Hutchings, Brian

 1946 –2021

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Brian Wayne Hutchings on February 20, 2021 with his wife of 49 years, Nadia, by his side.

Brian is survived by his wife Nadia; three sons Michael (Terri), Mark (Brittany) and Stephen (Alyssa); five grandchildren; sisters Diana Doige, and Arlene (Dave) Flesher; brother-in-law Max Chorney (Elsa); sister-in-law Doris (Russell) Pereschuk, as well as a host of family and friends with whom he loved to share a glass of rum and a laugh.

Parents Ken and Grace Hutchings; mother-in-law Kay Kowalchuk; and his baby sister Joanne Chorney predeceased Brian.

Brian was a rock of a man – stronger than most knew and battled far beyond what anyone could have imagined.  His fight allowed him to experience his greatest joy in life – being called Gido to his five grandchildren: Adam, Robyn, Amy, James, and Parker.  Nothing put a bigger smile on his face than a koko-bonk from his grand kids.

Brian led by quiet example and humbly worked in his community throughout his life.  He worked with the Morinville Scouts, Morinville Minor Baseball, Morinville Junior Curling, and Sturgeon Victim Services.  Among various awards and recognition, Brian was named Morinville’s citizen of the year in 1993 for his contributions to the town he called home.  He loved his lake lot, playing cards with friends, and travels to warm places.  He was a genuine and kind man who would always put the needs of others first – an exemplary model of what it means to be a husband, father, and friend.   For all you did for us, Brian, thank you.   We know you are looking down on us with a smile and would be the first to crack a joke in order to ease the pain.

We would like to thank Dr. Charles Strytveen, Dr. Vivek Dhawan, Dr. Michael Smylie and Julia Weibe for all their compassion and excellent care for Brian; you went above and beyond your duties.

A Celebration of Brian’s life will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
