It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and cousin at the age of 90 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, William Mekish (Gerilyn), Frank Yurkowski (Coleen), Nellie Guy and Robert Marcil (Shannon); her grandchildren Lee-Ann (DJ), Daryl (Jill), Lorri-Ann (Pete), Cheryl (Vinny), Travis (Nicole), Cullen and Callum; her great grandchildren Malcolm (Kelsey), Marcus (Brittany), Kianna (Tate), Faith, Colton, Pete, Sophie, Evelyn, Talia and Atticus.

She was predeceased by her parents Nellie and Louis Mekish, husband Joe Marcil, son Victor Yurkowski, brothers; Napoleon Mekish, David Mekish, Vincent Mekish, sisters; Clemence Mekish, Gertie Mekish, Exilda Mekish, Olive Mekish, and Marie Mekish.

Mom was born in Camperville, Manitoba and was a survivor of the Residential Schools. Despite only having a grade three education, she was a hard worker and accomplished everything she set her mind to. She started her working life in a nursing home as an environmental aide and continued working as a housekeeper for many families over the years.

Throughout her life she spread kindness, compassion, and generosity to all those she crossed paths with and instilled those qualities in her children.

Her hobbies included playing bingo and baking. Those close to her know that she made the best homemade buns, egg and cheese buns and cinnamon buns. One of the great loves of her life were the Edmonton Oilers. She moved to Alberta in November, 1980 and from that day on recorded every Oilers game. She had an extensive collection of Oilers memorabilia.

Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Rosefield Centre in Innisfail, Alberta for the care, compassion, respect and dignity they showed to our mom over the years.

In honour of our Mother, A Celebration of Life will be held at the Heartland Funeral Home 4415 - 49 Street Innisfail, Alberta on April 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.  You will be greatly missed mom.
